How did the most self-sufficient society of Chios survive?

The village of Pityos has the distinctive feature of not having a nearby “neighbour”. The nearest villages are nowadays more than 15 minutes away by vehicle and were much further away when wheels did not erase the distances, as is the case today.

Its inhabitants, of necessity, developed every possible technique to be able to survive and to this day they preserve many of them intact, as if they were sealing their lives in a time capsule, ready to reveal to the visitor secrets of the last century.

On an unforgettable tour of the village of Pityos, you will learn about the farming life of a small island community. You will be transported mentally into its everyday life through a walk in the squares and alleys of the village with the particular architectural elements of its houses and references to the unwritten laws of an bygone era.
